My Armour
My body is my armour
It keeps me safe from harm
I like to live inside it
But I find it lacking charm
My body is my armour
A shelter strong and tough
It’s always helpful to me
But it never is enough
My body is my armour
I find it hard to move
I want to break the pattern
But my armour keeps me safe
My body is my prison
I can’t breathe
Slowly suffocating
I know I can’t outrun
I have the make the changes
And finish what I’ve begun
Shedding off the layers
Goes slowly, one by one
Each one feels more open
My hardened shell undone
I am learning how to breathe
To live with who I am
I’m learning how to move again
Adjusting what I can
Steadily the balance shifts
A subtle change of tone
Without all of its boundaries
My body is my home
